The growth rate of a plant during the first week after germination is given by $\displaystyle g(t)=ae^{t/2}{\text{ mm/day}},$ where the time t is measured in days, and a is a constant. On the first day, the plant grew 1mm. Determine the constant a.

By knowing that $\ h(1)=1$, we calculate $1=h(1)=2a(e^{\frac {1}{2}}-1)$ $a={\frac {1}{2(e^{\frac {1}{2}}-1)}}$. So, the function of height is $h(t)={\frac {e^{\frac {t}{2}}-1}{e^{\frac {1}{2}}-1}}.$
