Your new irving k barber learning centre pages | 2 | 21:23, 2 December 2011 |
Thanks for using the UBC Wiki. As part of an effort to better organize the UBC Wiki, we're moving pages to the appropriate section of the wiki. The goal of this process is to make information on the UBC Wiki easier to find.
I noticed that you created two new pages in the wiki at:
Irving K Barber Learning Centre:Study Space
Irving K Barber Learning Centre:Classrooms
I was wondering if you meant these pages to be in the Library namespace ? Currently, your new pages are in the the root, or Main Space, of the wiki. This namespace is primarily a shared community space and articles in this section should be encyclopedic in nature, appeal to a broad audience, and be reflective of UBC. Articles in the main space should start with an introductory sentence describing what the page is about as this space is syndicated. Finally, pages in the Main Space belong to the wiki community and we encourage anyone edit them.
If you'd prefer your pages to be in the main space, you might note that there is already a page in the namespace called Irving K Barber Learning Centre - perhaps your information could be added to that page rather than creating new pages?
Please note that colons should not be used in wiki page titles unless they are designating an official namespace such as Main, Documentation, Course, or Library. I've removed the colons from your page titles as Irving K Barber Learning Centre is not a namespace.
Please see Help:Moving a page for more information on how to move or rename a page and UBC_Wiki:Community_Policies#Organization_Policies for more info about how the wiki is organized. Please let me know if I can provide further info or help out with anything.
Cheers,
Thank you for your message.
Please let me explain why I did that. My understanding may be wrong. Please correct me if it is.
When I search Irving K Barber Learning Centre, there is already a wiki entry: http://wiki.ubc.ca/Irving_K_Barber_Learning_Centre, which is under main namespace and in the category of UBC Buildings.
The IKBLC building is home to about ten units, some from Library and some do not (the director of IKBLC is from Library, though). When it comes to choose name space, I was a bit confused: if I put everything in Library space, I am not sure if it is correct.
The reason I created different pages for study rooms, facilities is because we are using UBC CMS which can embed wiki entries in wordpress. I have tried if I can embed a section of wiki page, not the entire page, into wordpress but with no luck.
Thank you.
Hi MinghuiYu,
Sorry for my slow reply. It is no problem to have the pages you created in the Main Space of the wiki. I just wanted to make sure you knew that the Main Space is considered the most community focused part of the wiki and that all users are encouraged to edit Main Space articles. If that is your intention for those page, great! - I can even start a IKBLC category. However, If you'd rather not have random people edit those pages (which might be especially important if they are being embedded into a website), they would probably be better off in the Library namespace which is limited to library staff or the Documentation namespace, where outside editing is discouraged. Please let me know if that makes sense or if I can clarify anything.
