Please rate my easiness! It's quick and helps everyone guide their studies. From the hint we see that two vectors x and y are linearly dependent if they are multiples of one another. This would mean that we can write, for some constant k. This is equivalent to or The first equation tells us k=1 but the other two equations then say that 1=-1 and 2=-1 which are both false and therefore there does not exist a unique k such that x=ky and thus x and y are not multiples of one another so they are not linearly dependent. |
