Reflection on student orientation session:

  • need more balance between context (Wikipedia) and time for students to edit.
  • suggest integrating an analysis activity that students could do in pairs: consider the structure or two wikipedia pages - similarities? differences? what makes it easy for you as a reader to learn something from these pages?
  • suggest students review examples: why is this important as a publicly accessible/editable resource?
  • suggest clearer transition between wikipedia stuff and UBC wiki - what's the difference between the 2 and what do students need to know about the editing they will be doing (perhaps more reference to studen.t course page and resources there).
