Splitting off sections into their own pages

Adrian, do you know what the status of a proper social media directory is? Did you see this proposal: http://drupal.it.ubc.ca/case-study/social-media-directory? It could nicely fit into the Cardinals site with Cardinals being in a good position to maintain that content actively.

The advantage of something like that would be that we could tag accounts, allow filtering/facets, export into various types of feeds (RSS, XML, JSON, global vs. for certain tags etc.). We might even be able to check automatically if the accounts are still active and delist if they appear abandoned.

Our unit will collect more social media channels as part of our degree (http://www.grad.ubc.ca/prospective-students/graduate-degree-programs) and faculty (http://www.grad.ubc.ca/prospective-students/faculties) listings as well. Right now the aggregated view is at http://www.grad.ubc.ca/campus-community/multimedia-social-networking I would be glad to get this information from somewhere else, but to get it into the degree program listing, each account would have to be tagged with the SISC program and degree codes. I am not sure if the wiki can deliver on such requirements.

This might be a discussion better moved off this talk page, but briefly: Yes, I've seen the proposed example and had actually done the same thing within the Cardinals site originally. A few factors at play kept it from progressing beyond a proof of concept (mostly buy in / participation, infrastructure and formal ownership of such a piece). This might be changing with the organizational changes happening and is a discussion that can probably be opened up again shortly. For now, though, the Wiki has proven to generate the largest level of participation and contributions, so I'm inclined to keep working with the progress we've made here on the wiki until we have a better sense of what direction an "official/proper" directory will go.
