In soil science we use both g/cm³ or kg/m³. In the case of bulk density and particle density you can use either e.g. in a mineral soil we can assume a particle density of 2.65 g/cm³ or 2650 kg/m³. In most questions (lab assignment of problem sets) we specify the units we want, so check the specific question.
