UBC: Where do I find all of the UBC forms for referrals?

UBC: Why can’t I see my course showing up in LOCR*?
  • Context - There are variations of this answer, but we (the library) can do absolutely nothing to add a student into LOCR.  In an ideal world this happens automatically when they are registered and when the systems update. If they have recently registered – it may just be a matter of them waiting a day or two to get added in. Ultimately the instructor is the only one that can deal with this issue.

UBC: Where do I find information related to OpenAthens login questions?
  • Note: For those with a personal OpenAthens login (not CWL) they will need to follow the exact pathway detailed on the above guide – they cannot search and then login, or they will get error messages

  • Answer: Hospital staff cards are exclusively issued for one of the following UBC-affiliated teaching hospitals: BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre; St. Paul’s Hospital; Vancouver General Hospital & UBC Hospital. UBC: LeanLibrary: AskAway and the Browser Extension
  • There are different ways to bypass the browser extension when working on AskAway. From the Confluence Training page:
    • Solution #1: Use a different browser than where you have the extension installed
    • Solution #2: Use an incognito browser. Instructions
    • Solution #3:  
      • Make sure that you have the "Skip the pop-up..." box un-ticked in you instance of Lean Library
      • if the institution you are helping someone with has their own instance of lean Library, change your extension to that institution:
        • generally, right click on the square Lean Library icon and look for "Manage" then "Options" (Firefox) or just "Options" (Chrome) - haven't explored Edge or Safari -
        • change the institution (for ex. reset to Royal Roads
        • save
  • if the institution does not use Lean Library, temporarily disable the extension:
    • again, right click on icon and look for Manage (Firefox & Chrome) and turn off or disable extension
    • to turn extension back on later, you will have to use the browser menu. In Firefox, look for Add-Ons then Extensions. In Chrome, look for More Tools then Extensions.

  • It’s a permanent link that won’t expire. I will give you the exact location to a resource at the Library, be it in-print, online or other material type.

  • Note: For databases, the process is a bit different, and each database has a different process.

  • UBC Small Business Accelerator has some reliable resources listed here: https://sba.ubc.ca/business-basics/create-your-business-plan  If you need more, there are many options online, and you can start by Googling it. You just have to make sure you select a resource from a reputable institution to follow the example.
