UBC Library updates regarding COVID-19 Bookable study spaces are available for students, faculty and staff in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre Monday through Saturday. This space includes access to desktop computers, printing, and scanning and is organized to ensure safe physical distancing at all times. Non-medical masks are required. Library users will be limited to 5 reservations per week.

Other UBC Library branches across the Vancouver campus will remain closed until further notice.

At UBC Okanagan, limited study spaces are available in The Commons.

The Library has launched an on-campus pick-up service to enable UBC Library users to access items in the collection that are not available in electronic formats.

Materials can be ordered by selecting the “Get it” option in the record of the item in the library catalogue.

Requests will be processed within 7 business days, held for up to 2 weeks at Koerner Library, and made available for pick-up on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Thursday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Library users will be notified that their items are available for pick-up by email. Scanned items are subject to the same processing time and will be emailed to the requestor.

UBC - Vancouver COVID - 19 Updates:

UBC - Okanagan COVID - 19 Updates:

COVID-19 Update:Returns, Recalls, and Fines at UBC Loan regulations have been implemented since September 14, 2020, and users are now asked to renew materials online. Here is a list of problem cases and how we are responding:
  • There are certain buildings that people are unable to access due to COVID closures or construction.  This means there are library materials locked in these buildings that cannot be returned.
    • Messaging is – this is an unavoidable situation and there is nothing the patron can do so the Library has a work around so patrons are not fined. Let patrons know to contact UBC Library Borrower Services who will help them via Assistance Form.
  • People do not want to travel to campus to return books that are due, overdue, or recalled.
    • Messaging is:
      • The library is supporting the learning and research of all UBC students and faculty.  To do this, physical items need to be made available for all borrowers.  For people who will have expired accounts as of September 15th, Borrower Services will not extend their account, but they will extend the specific items to have a due date for end of October, for items currently signed out. This gives patrons 6 weeks from expiry of their library account to return their items.  If a patron’s card has expired (as many have as of September 15th), extending an items due date does not extend their electronic access.
      • Recalled items have to be returned, no exceptions.  If the patron is out of the area or uncomfortable coming to campus the items must be sent through Canada Post or courier (at the cost of the patron).
