Thanks to the Canvas LTI integration with WeBWorK, WeBWorK classlists are synchronized once users actively click on the WeBWorK course navigation or assignment links (external tool link) in Canvas.
About the Classlist Sync
To avoid having all users click on the WeBWorK course link or assignment links in Canvas in order to synchronize their membership with the WeBWorK course, classlists are also automatically synchronized from Canvas to WeBWorK once a day. If you would like to turn off the automatic classlist sync,
- Go to the Course Configuration tab
- Click on the LTI tab
- Set “Automatically get roster from LMS via cron job” to FALSE
Instructors can also manually synchronize their classlist from Canvas to WeBWorK:
- Go to the Classlist Editor
- Under the Canvas Sync tab, click Canvas Sync!
Adding Instructors and TAs
Once your department's administrative staff (generally the department's timetable representative) has assigned instructors to their respective course(s) in the source of record (Scientia/SISC), they will gain automatic access to Canvas. The Instructors/TAs can then access the WeBWorK course from the Canvas course. Instructor/TAs' membership will be synced in WeBWorK as per the above.
Adding Students
Students are required to register for a course via the SSC. Once students have registered in the course and this registration is reflected in SIS, they will be granted access to the Canvas course automatically. They will then be able to access WeBWorK via the Canvas external tool link. Please allow up to 24 hours for the information to be transferred. In most of the cases, the process will take approximately 1 hour.
Please note that when students are added to WeBWorK, their course section is not updated automatically in your WeBWorK course. This information is not required in order to use WeBWorK (e.g., assigning problem sets/quizzes and grading your students). If you would like students' sections to appear in the WeBWorK class list, you will need to update this manually. You can follow the instructions below:
Adding Other Users
Other users should normally obtain WeBWorK access via access to the corresponding Canvas course. Once someone is granted access to Canvas, they can access WeBWorK via the external tool link in the Canvas course site.
If it is impossible to add the person to Canvas, please contact the following:
- For all Faculty of Science courses, please contact LT.support@science.ubc.ca
- For all other faculties, please contact the LT Hub at LT.hub@ubc.ca
Please ensure you include at least one of the following information of the individual you would like to add to your WeBWorK course in your request:
- CWL username
- Student number
- Employee ID
- Brief description of why this user requires access and what they will be assisting with
