How to Ask Students to Generate Test Questions?

Before a major test, ask students to generate one or two test questions and provide model answers.
The instructor should let the students know what types of questions will be on the test so that the students can generate questions accordingly.
The instructor should also explain how the questions will be used.

Why Ask Students to Generate Test Questions?

The questions and answers generated by students allow instructors to see what their students consider the most important or memorable content, what they understand as fair and useful test questions, and how well they can answer the questions they have posed. This also alerts the teacher when students have inaccurate expectations about upcoming exams.

Student-Generated Test Questions help students assess how well they know the material and faculty feedback can refocus their studying
