This dictionary was published in 2015 as a web version of a print book and does not display any information about update dates. The print version of this dictionary was published in 2007 under the title Wasaho Ininîwimowin masinahikan / Wasaho Ininîwimowin dictionary (Fort Severn Cree).

Where is Information Coming from

Entries in this dictionary come from speakers, as well as an earlier word list compiled by the Cree School Board of Québec with the help of speakers on the east coast of James Bay and Hudson.

Cree to English; English to Cree. It can be searched by English, Cree syllabics, or Romanized Cree.

Dialects Included

This is a dictionary of Ininîwimowin (Eastern Swampy Cree). In cases where different communities or age groups use different variations of a word, all variations are represented.

Type of Dictionary

This is a bilingual, monodirectional online dictionary. It can be searched in English, Cree, and Cree Syllabics.

How are Entries Organised

Entries can be searched by English, Romanized Cree, and Cree Syllabics, or browsed alphabetically by Cree or English. Each entry is listed in four parts: Syllabic spelling, Romanized spelling, part of speech, and English gloss. Below the entry there are two sections of drop-down menus: the Glosses drop-downs and the Topics drop-downs. Glosses are related word and phrases (eg: an entry for “trip” may have “fall” under the Glosses header), each hyperlinked to their own entry. The Topics drop-down menus show words that are related by theme, eg: animals.
