How are Entries Organised
Entries are listed alphabetically by Lakota in two lists. Entries in the first list contain the Lakota headword, the phonetic pronunciation of the Lakota word, and the English translation. Entries in the second list contain the same information but in a different order, starting with the Lakota headword, then the English translation, and finally the phonetic spelling of the Lakota word. No other information is given in any entries. There is no apparent organization as to why the word lists are kept separate. The second list is much more thorough than the first.

Other Notes
The WoLakota Project website that hosts two versions of the word list (PDF and webpage) was created to document the Oceti Sakouwin Essential Understandings (OSEU), which was created to give basic knowledge about the Oceti Sakouwin to school districts in South Dakota. The website now functions as a resource for educators to build culturally-informed curriculum. The word list supplies a starting point for Lakota language learning to assist with cultural education goals.
