Where is Information Coming from
This digital dictionary on Ulukau is a searchable version of Kepano's Combined Hawaiian Dictionary for Browsers (referred to as CHD or the Combined Hawaiian Dictionary). Ulukau and the Combined Hawaiian Dictionary are both digital dictionaries which are a compilation of previously published Hawaiian language resources, including: Hawaiian Dictionary, Māmaka Kaiao, Andrews Dictionary, Parker Dictionary, Place Names of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Place Names, and Hawaiian Legal Land-Terms. Ulukau is more user friendly and easier to search than the Combined Hawaiian Dictionary.

How are Entries Organised
Entries have to be searched in Hawaiian or English and cannot be browsed. The search can be filtered to include results from any, or all of, the eight source dictionaries. The entries and appear alphabetically (Hawaiian to English; English to Hawaiian) in the search. Multiple entries are returned after a search and can be clicked on for more in-depth information about the entry. The entries provide the translation in the corresponding language (English or Hawaiian, depending on the search), and relating words to the headword. At the bottom right of each entry is a link to the Combined Hawaiian Dictionary (CHD), which contains more traditional dictionary entries, and redirects the user from the entry they searched in Ulukau to the one in CHD.

Other Notes
This dictionary is connected to the Combined Hawaiian Dictionary (CHD). The CHD is an online combined Hawaiian dictionary in browsable form that merges entries from Hawaiian Dictionary, Māmaka Kaiao, A Dictionary of the Hawaiian Language, and Place Names of Hawaiʻi. It is connected to Ulukau as all of the dictionaries it is based on are available through that data repository, and it is also connected to Wehewehe Wikiwiki as they use the same dictionaries; but Wehewehe is advertised as a "high-speed search".
Highlighting words causes a small pop-up window appear with a definition of the word, and relating words, that can be closed at any time by pressing the "x" on the top right of the square.
Searches can be customized by pressing the brown Customize Search toggle below the search bar. Users are able to choose between what resource information comes from, the type of spelling, and whether the search contains only the word or entries containing the word.
