Where is Information Coming from

This is a two-part revised edition of A Practical Dictionary of the Coast Tsimshian Language (1978) and A Reference Grammar for the Coast Tsimshian Language (1979), both by John A. Dunn. Information in the 1978 dictionary and 1979 grammar come from speakers and previously published works. The previously published words include: Boas' 1912 Tsimshian Texts, Hindle and Rigsby's 1973 A Short Practical Dictionary of the Gitksan Language, and Susman's 1940 Tsimshian Materials.

Entries are organised alphabetically by Sm'álgyax. All entries are numbered; sub-entries have the same whole number as the main entry with an additional decimal point (ex. 195 as a main entry, with 195.1 as a sub-entry). The numbers are used to reference entries in the English index. More information on notations and abbreviations used in the entries can be found in the section titled The Entry.

The digitized copy of the dictionary is a PDF scan of the physical dictionary hosted on the University of Alaska Fairbanks website in the Alaska Native Language Archive in two parts. Part I is the dictionary, and Part II is the grammar.
