Where is Information Coming from

The information in this dictionary comes from speakers throughout fieldwork, in which the author encountered many Seneca words and texts such as formal speeches, legends, historical accounts, and conversations; this information is cited in the Introduction. The material for this dictionary was collected during a fieldwork over four summers between 1956-1959, on three reservations in New York.

This dictionary also uses previous works such as Internal reconstruction in Seneca (Chafe 1959), Iroquoian cosmology, first part (Hewitt 1903), and Oneida verb morphology (Lounsbury 1953); all of these works and more are cited in the Bibliography.
