This dictionary primarily includes information from the Kitlope dialect, but also includes some information from the Kitimaat dialect.

Type of Dictionary

This dictionary is a bilingual, mono-directional dictionary, introduced by a brief grammar and concluded by a root list.

How are Entries Organised

The entries in this dictionary are organized alphabetically by Haisla according to the aphabet included on pg. 52. Entries include the Haisla head word, an English gloss, and the Haisla root on which the head word is based. Some entries include examples of the use of the head word listed below the main entry.

The grammar that introduces the dictionary contains information about the Haisla phonemic system, morphophonemics, and syntactic concepts.

The root list included after the dictionary (in Volume Two) is organized alphabetically by Haisla. Root entries include the Haisla root, an English gloss, a reference number connected to the previously published North Wakashan Comparative Root List (1980) by the same authors, and a list of entries related to the root.
