This dictionary was originally published in 1979 by National Bilingual Materials Development Center, Rural Education, University of Alaska, Anchorage, Alaska.

This dictionary is designed for elementary school students, and aims to "provide a general exposure to, rather than a comprehensive compilation of, the language." (from the Acknowledgements section)

The 2007 Upper Tanana (Tetlin) Dictionary is derived from this dictionary.

Where is Information Coming from

Much of the information included in this dictionary comes from earlier (1974 and 1975) Upper Tanana publications prepared by the Alaska Native Education Board. Approximately 450 additional entries have been added to the current dictionary, which likely come from work with Alfred John, as well as some work with Mary Paul.
