How are Entries Organised
Entries in this dictionary can be viewed alphabetically by Naskapi via the Browse function or the Search function. Whichever way it is viewed, each entry contains the Naskapi syllabics followed by the Naskapi word in the Latin alphabet, its part of speech, and the English gloss. When clicked on, each entry opens a drop-down box showing the same information enlarged, as well as three drop-down lists: Morpheme, which shows the morphemes that appear in the word; Theme, which shows the semantic domain; and Keywords, which shows related words or terms in English. All words in these dropdown lists are hyperlinked to their own entries.
The Browse function, available on the Browse tab, shows a series of drop-down lists organised alphabetically by Naskapi: Entries, Keywords, Themes, Morphemes, and Parts of Speech. Clicking on Entries allows users to browse all entries in the dictionary alphabetically by Naskapi headword. Clicking on Themes allows users to view all entries according to semantic domain. Each domain contains a drop-down list of all entries related to its theme (eg: abstract emotion). Clicking on Morphemes allows users to browse all morphemes that occur in entries. Each morpheme contains a drop-down list of the entries it appears in. Clicking on Parts of Speech allows users to browse all entries according to their part of speech. Each part of speech contains a drop-down list of related entries. The words in the dropdown menus are hyperlinked or are further nested as dropdown menus and offer more detailed lists of related terms when clicked on.
The Search function allows users to search by English or Cree and to filter entries by keyword, definition, theme, beginning with, containing, ending with, and whole word. Searches take users to the Results tab, where search results are grouped according to category (entry, keyword, theme, part of speech). Each entry can be viewed as a drop down list.
