How are Entries Organised
Entries can be browsed alphabetically by Dakelh, alphabetically by English, topically, or pictorially. Topical and pictorial entries are organized alphabetically by English within groupings. Entries can be searched in Dakelh or English. Users can also select the function Random Entry which provides a word randomly.
Entries include the Dakelh headword (written in three different orthographies: the Carrier Linguistic Committee writing system, the Carrier Syllabics, and the International Phonetic Alphabet), the part of speech, the English translation, and related words. Many entries include an example phrase, an audio recording of the Dakelh word and example phrase, and an image. Entries that contain example phrases also have a word-by-word gloss of the example sentence. Some entries may include more detailed information on the meaning of the word, grammatical notes, and etymological information. Ecological entries may also contain the scientific name, the local name, cultural information, and relevant sound files (i.e., the sound of an animal). Affix entries may contain links to words that contain the head-affix. Verb entries contain information on affixes and roots. Many aspects of entries have pop ups that provide more information when hovered over.
There are twenty-five indexes which may be selected from the drop-down menu at the top of the page in the centre. By selecting an index, users can access words based on that organization. The four most likely to be used (i.e. English, Dakelh, Topical, and Pictorial) are listed at the top left of the page and may be selected there.
