Where is Information Coming from
The audio recordings on this website come from six decades of work with the Kashaya language. Many of the recordings and entries come from work by Robert Oswalt—primarily with Essie Parrish, but also with other speakers—starting in 1957. More recent recordings come from two field methods classes at UC Berkeley, one with language consultant Milton "Bun" Lucas led by Leanne Hinton and the second with language consultant Anita Silva led by Pam Munro. Other audio in this dictionary come from work by Gene Buckley with speakers in 2012-2018.

How are Entries Organised
There are three vocabulary lists on this website: Words with Images, All Words, and Sentences. All sections can be browsed and searched.
Entries in the Words with Images section include words and short phrases along with related images. In this section entries can be organized alphabetically by either English and Kashaya using the toggle at the top of the page. Entries include an image, the word in English and Kashaya, and audio. This section predominantly contains nouns. All entries include audio.
Entries in the All Words section can be organized alphabetically by either English and Kashaya using the same toggle at the top of the page. Entries include the word in English and Kashaya and audio.
The Sentences section is organized the same as the All Words and includes all the same information. This section features variety of sentences drawn from recordings.
The website also includes a Stories tab. Stories are presented line-by-line with accompanying line-by-line audio. Each line is presented in both Kashaya and English (the order of which can be toggled).
