The information in this dictionary comes directly from speakers. Ronald Lowe's Kangiryuarmiut Uqauhingit Numiktittitdjutingit—Basic Kangiryuarmiut Eskimo Dictionary (1983) and Siglit Inuvialuit Uqautchiita Nutaat Kipuktirutait Aglipkaqtat—Siglit Inuvialuit Eskimo Dictionary (2001) also provided language data.

This is a dictionary of the Kangiryuarmiut dialect of Inuinnaqtun, as spoken in the community of Ulukhaktok in the Inuvialuit Region of Canada's Northwest Territories.

Type of Dictionary

This dictionary is a bilingual, mono-directional dictionary with a detailed suffix list and an English to Inuinnaqtun index.

How are Entries Organised

Entries are organised alphabetically by Inuinnaqtun according to the English alphabet. Entries include the Inuinnaqtun headword, the English translation, and often an example phrase or word in Inuinnaqtun with an English translation.

There is a detailed suffix list starting on p. 205, also alphabetized by Inuinnaqtun according to the English alphabet. Entries include the Inuinnaqtun suffix, its meaning, category, ending, and form, followed by a list of example words utilizing the suffix comparing words with and without the suffix to display meaning changes. At the end of the section, there is a list of Alternative Suffix Forms on p. 396.

The dictionary is printed in a large font, which can be helpful for readers with poor eyesight.

According to Nunavut Arctic College, this dictionary is the most comprehensive publication of any Western Canadian dialect of the Inuit language, as it "contains over 5,000 Inuinnaqtun entries and subentries with their translations, over 3,000 example sentences, and a large inventory of suffixes."

Suffix entries include information about lexical categories, inflection, the different forms a suffix may take, and examples of how each suffix is used."
