How People are Cited
People such as speakers and other contributors are cited on the interior cover page of the dictionary. Speakers are also cited in The Combined Kanza Texts section, which assigns each "Combined Text" (CT) a number as well as offering the title, the speaker, and the year of the event (for those describing historical narratives). These texts, and thereby the speakers, are cited within entries through the assigned number.
How Information is Cited
Speakers who worked with linguists throughout the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries, as well as the linguists, are cited on the interior cover of the dictionary and in the Introduction. Speakers are cited through The Combined Kanza Texts included in the entries through an assigned number as detailed on pg. xviii. Linguists are cited via their initials within entries.
Where is Information Coming from
Information in this dictionary comes from previously written language materials by linguists working with speakers throughout the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. These include the documentary records of James Owen Dorsey and Dr. Robert L. Rankin, both of whom worked with various speakers to document the Kansa language.

How are Entries Organised
Entries are organized alphabetically by Kansa in the Kaw - English section of the dictionary and alphabetically by English in the English - Kaw section. Entries in the Kaw - English section include the Kansa headword (first intact and then divided into syllables), any variations in spelling, and the part of speech. Many entries include example phrases in both Kansa and English, and approximately one quarter of entries include additional cultural or grammatical information. Verb entries also include the stem type, conjugation paradigms, and a blank in the syllable-divided headword to note where the pronominal particle is inserted. Entries in the English - Kaw section include the English headword, the Kansa translation(s), the part of speech, and the English gloss/definition (for each Kansa translation).
Before the dictionary sections there is a thorough introduction to the Kansa language, including aspects of historicity, grammatical elements (e.g., information on each word class), and specifics about entries (e.g., various markings). The front matter also includes information about the writing system, sound system, and more specific grammatical information (i.e., motion verbs diagram and instrumental prefixes).
