Publishing Information

This is not a published dictionary, but a scan of dictionary file cards. The document with the noun file cards and the document with the verb file cards are uploaded separately to the Alaska Native Language Archive.

This is a collection of scanned handwritten and typescript file cards, which is attributed to the University of California at Berkeley. According to the Alaska Native Language Archive most entries are from before 1925, some are from Mary Haas between 1933 and 1934, and a small amount are from Victor Golla between 1962 and 1964.

These file cards appear to have been compiled into the 1964 Gwich'in Stem List, which is also available on the Alaska Native Language Archive.

The PDF of this scanned file card collection includes an introductory first page with archival information—likely added by the Alaska Native Language Archive—which lists the authors and the annotator.

In the noun file Kathy N. and Dick M.'s names are handwritten on the following page, at the beginning of the photocopied section of the collection. The writing is mostly illegible, but may include their roles or full names.

In the verb file "through the courtesy of R. Mueller, Nov. 22, 1974" (Richard Mueller) is handwritten on the following page, at the beginning of the photocopied section of the collection.

These collections are a mix of typescript and handwritten entries which consequently is difficult to comprehend and read. Furthermore, most entries are upside down or sideways which adds to the struggle of comprehension.

900 noun slips are scanned, which includes around 1800 forms. 5000 verb slips are scanned, which includes around 8000 forms.
