The entries are organized alphabetically by the scientific name in the Plant Species Named and/or Used by the Hesquiats section and Appendix III, alphabetically by Nuu-chah-nulth in Appendix I and the Index to Hesquiat Plant Names section, and alphabetically by English in Appendix II, Appendix IV, and Appendix V.

This dictionary is introduced by a thorough explanation of the Hesquiaht dialect of Nuu-chah-nulth, the Hesquiaht traditional territory, the effects of European contact on plant life and usage, the variety of botanical uses, and Nuu-chah-nulth naming and classification of plants. The entries in the botanical dictionary section include the plant's scientific name, English name, Nuu-chah-nulth name, and information about the Hesquiaht usage and traditional environment of the plant. There are several appendixes including information about plants known or used by the Hesquiaht which are not identified botanically, multiple wordlists of plant names, and Nuu-chah-nulth names for introduced plants. There are two indexes, one organized Nuu-chah-nulth to English and the other by English/scientific name directing users to the relevant page.
