Information included in this dictionary comes from speakers, previous resources, and a manuscript dictionary by James Crippen.

The primary consultants for this dictionary are Anita Lafferty, John Marks, June Pegues, and Helen Sarabia. In addition to the four primary consultants, Bessie Cooley, David Katzeek, and Fred White provided examples sentences and/or audio recordings.

The previous sources are the Interior Tlingit Noun Dictionary (2001) by Jeff Leer, Doug Hitch, and John Ritter, the Tlingit Verb Dictionary (1973) by Gillian L. Story and Constance M. Naish, and the first edition of the Lingít Dictionary: Northern Dialect (2005) by Lance Twitchell.

All entries specifically from the Interior dialects (Atlin, Carcross, and Teslin) included in this dictionary come directly from the Interior Tlingit Noun Dictionary. These entries are marked with the following: (At) for Atlin, (C) for Carcross, or (T) for Teslin.

Tools and Framework used

This dictionary is available as a physical and digital book. It has also been produced as a CD-ROM.

Access

The physical copy of this dictionary is accessible through libraries and can be purchased through the Sealaska Heritage Store website for ($25.00 CAD). The digital copy is open access through the Alaska Native Language Archive and Sealaska Heritage websites.

The Introduction of the dictionary states that the CD-ROM version is available on the Sealaska Heritage website, but it does not appear to still be available as of 2023.

Tlingit to English, English to Tlingit.

Dialects Included

The four primary language consultants for this dictionary are from Angoon, Douglas Island and Hoonah. Angoon pronunciation variants are marked.

Entries from the interior dialects of Atlin, Carcross and Teslin (which come from the Interior Tlingit Noun Dictionary) are included and marked.

Angoon pronunciation variants are marked with An, while entires from the interior dialects are marked with At (Atlin), C (Carcross), T (Teslin) when the dialect is known.

Type of Dictionary

This is a bilingual, bidirectional dictionary which include a thematic lexicon.

How are Entries Organised

The body of dictionary is divided into Tlingit-English and English-Tlingit. The main body of the dictionary is followed by a Tlingit Thematic Lexicon, and an Appendix. The first two sections are organized alphabetically (Tlingit-English and English-Tlingit), and the Tlingit Thematic Lexicon is organized by semantic category. The Appendix includes some grammatical information.
