This dictionary is a bilingual, mono-directional dictionary, introduced by a brief grammar.

How are Entries Organised

Entries are organized alphabetically by Jicarilla according to the alphabet listed on p. 1. Entries include the Jicarilla headword, the part of speech, and the English translation. Most entries also include example sentences in both Jicarilla and English. Some entries include variations in Jicarilla spelling or term and etymological information. Prefix entries contain many examples of words which use the prefix.

The introductory grammar includes information about the Jicarilla sound system, parts of speech, verb structure, and sentence structure. Following the grammar, there is a section with topical word lists. Topics include common phrases, numbers, time and calendar terms, and a sample dialogue. After these lists, there are several texts which are written in Jicarilla, the literal English translation, and the free English translation.

At the end of the dictionary, there is an English to Jicarilla index. These entries only contain the English headword and the Jicarilla translation(s). This resource also has a thematic lexicon with topically-organized word lists. Topics include abstract ideas, activities, animals, and many others. These entries only contain the English headword and the Jicarilla translation(s).
