This dictionary was originally published in 1989 by the University of Toronto Press. A second edition was published in 1995, adding over 300 entries. The third edition, adding over 1,100 new entries, was published in 2017 by the University of Toronto Press.

Entries in the Blackfoot-English section are organised alphabetically by Blackfoot stem, root, or affix. Each entry contains the morphological type (noun stem, verb stem, root word), the English gloss, and full words or sentences the form is used in (represented in boldface type), each with an English translation. Many entries included idioms, variations, synonyms, and cross-references if applicable. The English Index is organised alphabetically by English headword, listed with Blackfoot equivalents and their page number in the Blackfoot-English section. No other information is included in entries.
