Where is Information Coming from
This dictionary is an online version of the 1993 Dictionary of the Alabama Language compiled by Cora Sylestine, Heather Hardy, and Timothy Montler. The majority of this dictionary was compiled by Sylestine, a speaker and educator, who was later joined by Hardy and Montler. This online edition was made with help from speakers and other previous work.
Tools and Framework used
This is an online dictionary which is available as a website. The dictionary was compiled using Bob Hsu’s Lexware software, which was then used to generate both this online version of the dictionary and the 1998 print version.

How are Entries Organised
This online dictionary is separated into browsable sections based on the first letter of each entry. Each section of the Alabama-English portion of the dictionary can found at the top of the website page, while to the sections of the English-Alabama Finderlist can be found at the bottom.
In the Alabama-English entries are organized alphabetically by Alabama headword. Entries include the Alabama headword, and English definition, and typically also include cultural or historical information, a usage label, variant pronunciations, example sentences, grammatical information and analysis, and cross-references. The information included in each entry and an explanation of the chosen citation forms can be found in the PDF of the print dictionary’s Introduction.
Entries in the English-Alabama Finderlist are organized alphabetically with English headwords, followed by the Alabama translation, and link to the main entry in the Alabama-English section of the dictionary.
