How are Entries Organised

Entries are organized alphabetically by English in the first section. Entries include the English headword or phrase, alternative English expressions that are synonymous to the headword or phrase, the Navajo equivalent, and the literal English translation of the Navajo. For verb entries, the English headword or phrase is listed in the infinitive form, the Navajo equivalent is listed in the first person singular form, and the principal paradigms of the Navajo verb are given below the entry in smaller font. Entries are organized alphabetically by Navajo in the second section. Entries include the Navajo headword or phrase and the English equivalent, the first of which is always the key form. In verb entries, the Navajo headword or phrase is listed in the third person of the imperfective mode and translated in English as the infinitive form.

There are two appendices after the dictionary. The first containing information on personal names, and the second containing topical phrase lists. Topics include environment, healthcare, school, and livestock.

We are unable to access the most recent edition of this dictionary to determine how entry organization differs in more recent versions of this dictionary.
