Information in this dictionary comes from language documentation done by Robert Rankin over three decades. The data was then compiled into this resource by the Kanza Language Project.

Type of Dictionary

This is a bilingual, mono-directional topical word list.

How are Entries Organised

Entries are grouped topically. Categories include animals, body parts, classroom items, clothing, and many more. Within topics, entries are alphabetized by English and include the English headword and the Kansa translation. Some entries contain additional information such as a literal English translation of the simplest unit parts, a reference to words that sound similar, or a formula for verb conjugation. No other information is included within entries. Each page has one illustration. The associated entry is underlined.

Prior to the dictionary there is the Kansa alphabet introducing the sound system. There is more information about the sound system included in the Notes on the Use of the Kanza Alphabet on pg. 4.
