Definition

stem exclusion noun

The second stage within single-cohort development. Stem exclusion refers to trees from a single cohort in an environment where growing space is available. Trees will continue to invade until all growing space is taken up. No regeneration occurs during this stage as no growing space is made available. This is a major stage of plantation forestry.
