Definition
sprouting noun
A type of natural vegetative reproduction in which sprouts originate from dormant or adventitious meristems. These are often at the base of the parent tree (basal sprouts) or from shallow roots (root suckers) following a disturbance such as harvesting or fire, or as a result of canopy break-up.
