Applied Biology (B.Sc.)

From UBC Wiki

Welcome to the Applied Biology Page. This page is under construction.

The Applied Biology Undergraduate Program is located in the HR MacMillan building on UBC's Vancouver campus. In 1967, the H.R. MacMillan building opened as home to the Faculties of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry as well as the H.R. MacMillan Library. Today, HR MacMillan is home to the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Students interested in plants, animals, soil, agriculture, the environment and sustainability can choose one of two majors: the Applied Animal Biology (AABI) Major and the Sustainable Agriculture and Environment (SAGE) Major.

MacMillan Room 102A Teaching Lab

Located in room 102A at the H.R. MacMillan Building, the APBI teaching laboratory is a modern facility that is home to several courses. In 2018, the MCML 102A lab underwent a full-scale renovation that ensured a safe and inspiring lab space for approximately 450 undergraduate and graduate students per year from a wide variety of programs, including: Applied Biology, Soil Sciences, Global Resource Systems, Forestry, Physical Geography, and Atmospheric Sciences, that at present time use this lab. Check out the transformation here.

The teaching lab is home to many of the soil and biometeorology courses available in the program. On the APBI Teaching Lab Wiki page you can find information about courses, lab features and capacity, equipment and tools available, safety training requirements and standard operating procedures. There are also a number of soil science outreach kits available for use. If you are a graduate student or faculty member looking for information about this resource, please contact the APBI Teaching and Research Technician, Lewis Fausak (Lewis.Fausak@ubc.ca).
