Everyone at EML: |
Regular hours
EML's working hours are 9-5 on weekdays, with the exception of statutory holidays, when campus is closed. View the statutory holidays here.
As a Work Learn or volunteer, you are not expected or allowed to work full time at EML, but when you do work, we encourage you to work during the day. Your project meetings should be during the day. (You may meet with your project team outside of EML working hours if everyone on your team agrees, but please don't try to convince any faculty members or people outside EML to do so. If you have questions about this, or are being asked to work outside working hours, please talk to the EML Supervisor.)
What if my hours change?
If your schedule changes, or you need to reschedule something due to prior family, school, or health commitments or emergencies, please tell the Lab Supervisor and Lab Coordinator, as well as your project team. If your regular schedule changes, please tell them and then update the Team page on Confluence here.
COVID-19
Student workers and volunteers are allowed and encouraged to come to any of the EML spaces if you book space or a workstation ahead of time. You can book a space here.
Important: Do not come to campus if you are sick, or if someone you live with is sick.
Outside normal working hours
Some events at EML may run outside of 9-5 weekdays. As a Work Learn or co-op, you may be asked to participate in boothing at conferences, or to promote EML to other organizations. When asked to do so, you should record time spent promoting EML as hours worked. If you are unsure if something counts as time worked, ask the EML Supervisor.
EML Socials
EML Socials do not occur during business hours, nor should they be considered time worked. If you would like to attend a social with your coworkers on the EML team, please join us, but don't feel pressured. If you have an idea for a social or would like to organize one yourself, talk to the EML Coordinator or email emergingmedia.lab@ubc.ca.
