Extension request

Thanks, I somehow missed that extension. We'll have to evaluate it on our verification server - I'll get back to you in a day or so.

Cheers,

Do we have a working solution? We'd like to start spreading the word about those pages early next week and it would really be awesome if we could have that kind of functionalities in place then?

Hi David and Adrian,

Sorry for my slow response; the above extension was added to our production server (the live wiki) last night and you should be able to use it now. Our technical administrator did have some concerns with the extension: mainly, in no way should this extension be used to manage access to secure or confidential content. I don't think this is a problem for your goal of hiding editing or formatting elements but please be advised that it does not create any true permission-based security and all content should be regarded as being discoverable on the wiki. Because of the possibility of this extension being misunderstood, we generally ask that you do not heavily promote its functionality beyond your project (and to generally remind your users that confidential or private information should never be added to the wiki). Please let me know if that makes sense or if I can provide further info.

Cheers,

Also, please let me know when you're ready to start spreading the word about the MER project and I'll feature it on the front page of the wiki.

Cheers,

Awesome!

We'll be ready to go full out by the end of the week, so we would be delighted to get front page coverage from Monday. Most math exams are in 20 days from now. So we hope the resource will be heavily used in that time.

As for the extension, we just want to use it in order to hide some edit buttons and technical information that would just pollute student's browsing. It does make a lot of sense not to use this as a way to protect confidential or private information and I do not see us having such a use in any possible way. Thanks for the reminder and warning, we really appreciate all the efforts you guys are taking to help us with this project!

Cheers,

Thank you! The extension does seem to be working as I had hoped. As David said, we aren't planning to use this to secure anything; it's just for hiding irrelevant things from non-contributors.
