Students' Perspective Feedback
- This case had a lot of well-organized, thought-provoking questions
- Part about Epic of Gilgamesh: seemed very abrupt, could be better integrated into the rest of the case
- Part about government officials being assassinated: also seemed a big abrupt, could have some examples associated it
- Too much abbreviations for names of organizations--you start to forget what acronyms mean, would be better to spell out the whole name each time it is mentioned, or else include a "key" of definitions at the beginning
- In the Introduction: put the different definitions of illegal logging under sub-headings or find a way to better sub-divide
- Discussions of impacts on indigenous communities: more local examples (Canada, B.C.) would make it easier to relate to
- Economic Implications section: using a more specific example would make it easier to relate to
- What about the perspective of the workers being hired to do illegal logging? Why people get into the industry in the first place? They may be economically disadvantaged and the industry provides them with work; could discuss these types of social implications, or could include more questions for students about these social implications to get them thinking about it
- Does illegal logging benefit the farming industry? Post-forest land often results in farmland being created, does the farming industry exploit illegal logging for this purpose? Could include some perspective on this or could include more questions for students to get them to think about it
