Big 5 Questionnaire
The personality scale in the course notes was taken from the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP). You can find it on this website: http://ipip.ori.org/
We will need to give brief details of the reliability and validity of this scale in this section.
Hello! I have added a little blurb about the reliability and validity of the IPIP/BFI. I will continue to add to it when I have a chance to do a bit more research on the subject. Feel free to add/subtract/edit as you see fit!
Good work! You guys might want to add a bit more about the specific IPIP scales that we used (there are lots of them for other personality traits and also ones of differing length for the Big 5).
Dr. Veale, for the specific IPIP scales, do you mean these - http://ipip.ori.org/newIndexofScaleLabels.htm?
I think these are the ones that I ended up using - you should probably double check though: http://ipip.ori.org/newBigFive5broadKey.htm
Dr. Veale, do you think we still need more information on the IPIP scales? I was going to add more description on what each variable is rated on ie. extraversion reflects someone who is life of the party and someone who talks a lot, Agreeableness reflects someone who shows sympathy other peoples emotions and puts other people before themselves, etc.
OR is this going into too much information?
Thanks
Hi NicolaVanderliek, You could certainly include "example items" here. Hope this helps, Jaimie
Hi all, I am just wondering if we need to be more specific on the items or characteristics that was given in the Big Five Inventory questionnaire. I checked the IPIP website and the Big Five Factor Markers were provided with either a 10 points scale or a 20 points scale, each of which has different alpha coefficient that is used as an estimate of internal consistency (reliability) of the items given in each factor. So I am thinking maybe it's important to state which scale Dr. Jaimie used to create the 44 items. What do you think?
hey everyone,
I was thinking if we should specify that we completed the BIG5 questionnaire in class earlier in the paragraph? It seems to me that having it towards the end of the paragraph is kinda weird.
Do you think we should switch the location of this sentence: The Big Five Inventory is a self-report inventory designed to measure the Big Five dimensions, and it was given in the course material for participants to complete. and put it right after the second sentence?
In my opinion it would be better and more informative for the reader to know that the results were obtained through completing the questionnaire in class from the very beginning.
I'll change it now, but feel free to edit it if you feel that it is wrong.
