Big 5 Questionnaire

The personality scale in the course notes was taken from the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP). You can find it on this website: http://ipip.ori.org/

We will need to give brief details of the reliability and validity of this scale in this section.

JaimieVeale (talk)16:53, 27 July 2013

Hello! I have added a little blurb about the reliability and validity of the IPIP/BFI. I will continue to add to it when I have a chance to do a bit more research on the subject. Feel free to add/subtract/edit as you see fit!

Good work! You guys might want to add a bit more about the specific IPIP scales that we used (there are lots of them for other personality traits and also ones of differing length for the Big 5).

JaimieVeale (talk)02:18, 29 July 2013

Dr. Veale, for the specific IPIP scales, do you mean these - http://ipip.ori.org/newIndexofScaleLabels.htm?

BernardMok (talk)21:10, 1 August 2013

I think these are the ones that I ended up using - you should probably double check though: http://ipip.ori.org/newBigFive5broadKey.htm

Dr. Veale, do you think we still need more information on the IPIP scales? I was going to add more description on what each variable is rated on ie. extraversion reflects someone who is life of the party and someone who talks a lot, Agreeableness reflects someone who shows sympathy other peoples emotions and puts other people before themselves, etc.

OR is this going into too much information?

Thanks

Hi all, I am just wondering if we need to be more specific on the items or characteristics that was given in the Big Five Inventory questionnaire. I checked the IPIP website and the Big Five Factor Markers were provided with either a 10 points scale or a 20 points scale, each of which has different alpha coefficient that is used as an estimate of internal consistency (reliability) of the items given in each factor. So I am thinking maybe it's important to state which scale Dr. Jaimie used to create the 44 items. What do you think?

I've made a few changes to this section. It's shaping up nicely, but I think it could still have a bit more added to it.

Hi everyone! I added a bit about internal consistency reliability and concurrent validity that I found from another article. Feel free to edit/make suggestions about it. :)

Hi I just added a little more to the opening paragraph to put in more detail about the specific IPIP scale that we used. Does anyone remember if we used the 10 point scale version or the 20 point scale version? This is what Dr. Veale posted as the IPIP scale that we did use: http://ipip.ori.org/newBigFive5broadKey.htm

This has both the 10 point scale and 20 point scale. I included both in the opening paragraph however I forget which one we used but if we only used the 20 point scale I think we can take out mentioning the 10 point scale in that first paragraph. please let me know thoughts :) Thanks

I just checked our course package (pg13/14) and since there are only 44 items in the BFI that we completed, does that mean it was neither a 10 point nor a 20 point version? Was it perhaps a shortened scale that we used?

SydneyW (talk)01:25, 4 August 2013

Has anyone been able to find out which scale we used? I think we used the 10 point scale for our 40 marks?
