Discussion on potential survey questions.

A survey question that I would like to ask would be one of personal percption: "Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Multiculturalism makes Canada a better place to live."

5- Strongly Agree 4- Agree 3- Neither Agree or Disagree 4- Disagree 5- Strong Disagree

Ok guys since we have quite a lot of input from several people I thought I would sum up the different survey questions everyone have provided, just so that it would be easier to discuss.

So from Jeremia we have: 1. What is your satisfaction level of Canada's immigration policies? (1) - not at all satisfied (2) - somewhat dissatisfied (3) - neutral (4) - somewhat satisfied (5) - very satisfied 2. How do you find Canada being multicultural? (1) - not at all multicultural (2) - somewhat NOT multicultural (3) - neutral (4) - somewhat multicultural (5) - very multicultural

From Halvor we have: 1. Do you find Canada's perception of integration and immigration vs the US' perception i.e. mosaic vs. melting pot, to be more successful in regards to integration? 2. Based on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being not important and 5 being very important, which of these characteristics/attributes do you value the most in potential immigrants coming to Canada? Potential characteristics: Economic stability. Skin colour other than your own. More likely to fit in, in a western society. Prior knowledge of the language, either English or French.

From NaRaeKim we have 1. Do you think that immigration policies promote ethnic diversities in Canada? - 5 being very much and 1 being none and 2. Do you find some ethnic groups, who are not Canadian citizens, to dominate over other non-Canadian citizen groups in terms of the population?

Finally we have Teresa 1. "Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Multiculturalism makes Canada a better place to live." 5- Strongly Agree 4- Agree 3- Neither Agree or Disagree 4- Disagree 5- Strong Disagree

Based on the email we got from Dr. Cutler I think we have to have the questions ready for Wednesday, I'm not certain on this, but in the email we got on the 10 of February he said that we had five days left. So in total we have 7 potential survey questions, I think if anyone wants to add more survey questions they should do so by, 5pm on Tuesday, and then we can have some kind of vote on which 5 questions we all want to use. It would be best if we have the voting done by Tuesday or early Wednesday since we have to have this done on Wednesday, but I'm gonna send an email to Dr. Cutler and asking him when it is due just in case.

Hey Halvor, thanks for taking the initiative and creating this discussion page. I'm just thinking...we want our 5 final survey question to be created according to one research question right? I had suggested a research question with the survey questions I proposed. Is that a research question we want to tackle? I just want to clarify on that. But it already seems like all the proposed survey questions work for that research question. To follow up on that research question, we might also want to ask: 1) Are you an immigrant to Canada? (Yes, No) 2) If so, for how long have you been an immigrant? (# of years) 3) How would you rate your "immigrant experience" on a scale of 1 to 10? (1-cold, 5-lukewarm, 10-hot)

The last question, I've left purposefully not defined "immigrant experience." Thoughts? Do you these questions could be relevant to our proposed research question?
