Lab 7 Section 3

Lab 7 Section 3

Hello!

For section 3 of the lab, specifically for soil horizon depth, do we write down the depth included in the description of the chosen soil monolith? Why is it that the depth is, for example, 9-28cm instead of one measurement? Is this because, from the area in which they took this monolith the depth of the layers varied? I was also wondering if, for the diagnostic horizon, we have to write the diagnostic horizon present in that monolith, or (if more than one) all the possible diagnostic horizons?

Thank you!!

Hi Gretchen,
In section 3 (data collection), once you select your monolith, you will see a series of horizons with "depths". The depths are give for each horizon, so the top horizon will be 0-xx cm. For example 9-29 cm gives you the top and bottom of that horizon.
For the diagnostic horizon, it should be for the specific monolith you choose.
And if you think that the monolith you selected has more than one diagnostic horizon, you should list all of them. As you remember, some soil orders, have more than one diagnostic horizons, but other orders do not.
