Lab #5 Glacio-lacustrine vs. Lacustrine

Lab #5 Glacio-lacustrine vs. Lacustrine

How is it possible to discern between a Lacustrine and Glacio-lacustrine parent material C horizon (in terms of a monolith)? Thank you!

Abbey, see the two posts below: Parent Material Videos for details. In practice it may be difficult to distinguish between marine and glacio-marine or lacustring and glacio-lacustrine on a monolith, that is without knowing the depositional history. Both lacustrine and glacio-lacustrine deposits will have layering related to annual / seasonal deposition. A significant difference between lacustrine & glacio-lacustrine deposits is in color of layers. In lacustrine material all layers are of the same color, while in the glacio-lacustrine deposits layers are dark and light color (and they succeed each other) since they indicate different seasons of deposition (see lab manual and this page with videos http://landscape.soilweb.ca/glacio-lacustrine/)
