CEC and DDL

CEC and DDL

How are CEC and DDL related?

Hi Tarek, I am copying some earlier answers from today's questions....

-Cations that are (electrostaticaly) attracted to a (negatively) charged phyllosilicate particle are part of that particle's DDL, and all these cations can be exchanged by other cations in the soil solution through the reactions of the ion exchange.

-Since CEC is defined as total number of cations that soil can adsorb, all cations in the DDL are equal to CEC.
