Course-specific Training

Each of the larger first-year courses is assigned one or two senior-level TAs to act as Head TAs. The Head TAs run a 3-hour training module for the new TAs during the Fall Workshop to address course-specific topics such as:

  • Marking
  • Practicing introductions to labs/tutorials
  • Learning goals of the courses
  • Other specific pedagogies used (such as peer instruction through clickers)

The Head TAs also run weekly meetings with all TAs to address specific needs of each lab or tutorial session, and a follow-up workshop to address higher-level tools that should be addressed once TAs have more experience in the classroom.
