LFS OwnCloud Online Synchronised Storage

We are beta testing our installation of OwnCloud storage. LFS faculty, staff and graduate students may request a login with the Learning Centre.

Sync

Sync clients are available for the following platforms.

  • Windows
  • Mac
  • Linux
  • iOS (available through the App Store)
  • Android (available through Google Play)

Download the desktop clients from the OwnCloud website.

Sync Client Configuration

Server Address share.landfood.ubc.ca
Username Your CWL ID
Password your CWL password

Folder Sync Setup

  • Choose which folder you would like to sync to the storage server.
  • Leave the alias as owncloud

Click Next.

  • Remote folder is /

The setting above will sync all files in your OwnCloud account to the folder that you specified.

Selective Folder Sync

It is possible to sync only select folders on computers that do not have sufficient local storage or if not all the files are required.

In the sync client setup, after choosing the location on the computer for the files, set the remote folder to the name of the folder on OwnCloud that you would like synced.

example:

Remote folder = /Documents

Sharing

OwnCloud allows you to share your files and folders with another user in the system or anonymously via a web link. Sharing is setup using the web interface to OwnCloud and it can be accessed at https://share.landfood.ubc.ca.

Sharing using Web Links

When sharing using a web link, mouse over the file/folder, click on share followed by share with link check box, then copy the generated link to your email client to send to the person(s) that require access. Doing it this way allows you to send a message/instructions along with the web link.

Some useful options for sharing include setting a password and an expiry date of the link.
