Project Description

Context: What challenge or issue does the project aim to address?

RFSS is looking to run a feasibility study to assess various community food hub models and find one that meets the needs of the Richmond community. Students will set the groundwork for our organization to advocate for systemic change in the local food system. We hope to transform the archaic charity-based food security model into one that is collaborative, cohesive, empowering and inclusive.

Main Project Activities

  • Develop and implement systems to evaluate programs qualitatively and quantitatively
  • Keep organized and thorough operational records of program data, results, contacts, and operational details
  • Develop an understanding of the nonprofit world under an equity lens
  • Collaborate and adhere to asset based community development principles

Expected Project Deliverable(s)

1 Environmental Scan and Options Paper including:

  • Environmental scan- researching and report on existing models of community food hubs
  • Assess gaps and needs within the Richmond community through virtual meetings with key stakeholders
  • Synthesize research data and compile and provide feedback on a feasible model for Richmond. We need to move towards systemic change, shifting away from a charity model

Intended Project Outcome
