Founded in 1953, the Public Health Association of BC is a non-profit charity organization that provides public health leadership to promote health, well-being and social equity for all British Columbians. We fulfill our mission through advocacy, collaboration&engagement activities, education and research throughout though the spectrum of public health practice including prevention, promotion, protection and policy. Our priorities include eliminating poverty; reducing health/socio-economic inequities; addressing climate change &healthy environments; contributing to a sustainable, equitable economy; and preventing violence. The Board of Directors is composed of public health leaders from various organizations across the province including Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health, post-secondary institutions, and the non-profit sector and the association has over 500 members.

Project Description

Context: What challenge or issue does the project aim to address?

There are hundreds of community gardens programs across the province. All of them have their own unique aesthetic look, way of governance and community engagement. We want to tell the stories of these community gardens and share them with a broader audience.

Main Project Activities

  • •Interview 5 to 6 Garden Coordinator in the City of Vancouver •
  • Collect recent contact information from the garden coordinators and asking them if they want to part of the provincial listserv of garden coordinators •
  • Write blogs and develop social media posts to share the stories of these gardens

Expected Project Deliverable(s)

5 to 6 blog and social media posts with graphics or images to share the story of the gardens you interviewed

Intended Project Outcome

Gardens are able to share their story in a social media-friendly format. PHABC develops a provincial listserv to provide resources and networking opportunities to garden coordinators
