Framing Our Time and Place: Here at UBC
Do you know what happened to education for Aboriginal children around the time when the UBC Point Grey campus opened in 1925? Do you know the Canadian political context in 1948 when the Victory Through Honour totem pole, which now stands in front of Brock Hall, was given to UBC?
This exhibit juxtaposes four sets of key historical moments at UBC and Canada, with particular attention to their respective relationships with Aboriginal peoples. The exhibit allows us to see our presence at UBC today against the backdrop of the contrasting and overlapping national and institutional historical contexts. It also provides some reflection questions and space to invite participants to reflect upon their personal relationships to the multi-layered histories and to share their thoughts.
The exhibit was created by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology and the Xwi7xwa Library at UBC.
