SoTL Journal Club (October 15, 2013)

Selected article for our discussion:

  • Wilson, S. G. (2013). The flipped class: A method to address the challenges of an undergraduate statistics course. Teaching of Psychology, 40(3), 193-199. Ubc-elink.png

Some pointers for discussion:

1. The author mentions, that they were only able to achieve a "half or three quarters flip" but have retained some lecture components because the students had little experience in statistics. Are there areas and topics in your discipline that require lecturing?

2. In this article the instructor encourages student to access the Khan academy to supplement the pre-class activities. Is it valuable to direct students to open resources? Do you do this in your teaching and learning context?
