Resources for Teaching - Group 2
Maintain a balance between content coverage and concept reinforcement
- Maybe keep text to a minimum...reference material and concept
- Stack of index cards - at the end of the second/third lecture (Judy asks a few quick questions on the index cards...and then pass back to her)
- Extend the face to face classroom by using Connect - http://elearning.ubc.ca/connect (learning management system) to post your PDF's and/or powerpoints, discussions, self-assessment quiz, submit an assignment, etc
- Judy breaks up her lecture - with lots of activities...youtube videos, groups dialogue, clickers (http://elearning.ubc.ca/toolkit/clickers/) for student engagement...
Changes in Teaching Approaches
- investigate learning-centred approach
- is there a shift from liberal (transmission) education to more learner generated content? - may depend on the material
- collaborative dialogue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialogue_education) shifts the focus of education from what the teacher says to what the learner does
- Learning Styles - http://ctlt.ubc.ca/resources/webliography/learning-and-learners/
