Ownership of videos

Transfer ownership: change ownership of one or more videos

All videos have a single owner in Kaltura, and the owner is the only person who can modify, delete, enable sharing, etc. Some situations may require a transfer of the ownership of a video (i.e. for course rollover to a new faculty member at the end of a term, or change of faculty mid-term or in the case of a Faculty leaving the institution). Submit a request to the Learning Technology Hub and request a transfer of ownership. Include in your request the following information:

  • Total number and the exact title(s) of the video(s);
  • The CWL, email address, and first/last name of the current owner of the videos.
  • The CWL, email address, and first/last name of the user to whom the ownership is being changed.

Multiple ownership workaround 1: Allow others to download your video

A video uploaded to Kaltura in Connect is owned by a single user. However, you can allow other users to download your video(s). Refer to “Allow other users to Share and/or download a video”.

Multiple ownership workaround 2: Allow others to create a full-length clip of your video

A video uploaded to Kaltura in Connect is owned by a single user. However, you can allow other users to view and make a full-length clip of your video. The following steps will show you how to allow other users to make a full-length clip of your video and add it to their personal video library (their My Media):

  • Go to “My Media”
  • Select the video and check the box “Allow others to make clips of this video”
  • Click “contribute to Faculty Repository”, assign the relevant categories and clicks OK

Then the user that you are allowing to clip your video will do the following:

  • Go to “Faculty Repository”
  • Select the video and click “Add to a Course Gallery”
  • Select the desired course from the drop-down menu and click ok
  • Enter the course gallery to which the video has been added
  • Select the video, click “Create Clip”, changes the title/description if desired and click Save.

The video will be saved in the user’s My Media.
